I appreciate this pov! I wonder (as I've said untrue things like 'theatre is dead!!' countless times) how much these all/nothing scenarios are a cope. Or, maybe in a gentler way-- a philosophical exercise in imagining if [industry thing] dies, then what creative solution might present itself.
I love Octavia Butler's essay A Few Rules for Predicting the Future. There she says, "No matter how hard we try to foresee the future, there are always these surprises. The only safe prediction is that there will always be."
Great reminder about the limiting perspective we're working with pretty much all of the time, Jon. And while I'd say I tend to have a "flair for the dramatic" I actually did not say what you quoted me on - Ted Gioia did!! I just quoted him lol.
Don’t be embarrassed! I tend to quote a lot of people in my posts and sometimes am concerned I didn’t cite properly or that people might think I said it when I didn’t. And this was just me trying to be really intentional about giving credit where credit is due! And an expansive mindset is the future so I’m excited to see where it takes you!!
Likewise! I’m very excited to hear more about what you’re building with Ellis! We got lunch the other day. What a wonderful, bright, forward-thinking creative… Really glad you two are working together, and let’s all do a joint coffee/lunch soon!
A very good reminder and some much-needed counter-programming.
VERY glad those illustrations were found, another informative (and fun) read !!
So happy you enjoyed them! They're more violent than my usual illustrations, that's for sure!
at least the Australopitheci are trying to stop the violence!

I definitely see these types of statements as people coming to terms with a difficult (but probably more nuanced) reality.
Always expect the unexpected, I guess ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Those drawings though...

💀😳 I embarrass myself. Correction added!
Thank you for calling that out and thank you for the kind words! I try to adopt an expansive mindset.

Would absolutely love that, Jon.
